How to go Viral

With social media being at the forefront of any successful business, how do you make a viral video post? There are no guarantees of going viral and it shouldn’t be your goal. Your goal should be to engage your target audience by posting content that is useful, entertaining or shows off your company culture and personality.  You want your online image to reflect your brand.  If it goes viral, even better. We will go over what you can do right now to increase engagement on your profile.

TikTok is one of the hottest social apps. They have one of the best algorithms for discovery under the “For You” section. The recommendation system works to cater to each person’s preference, keeping users engaged for more extended periods. The content you post will most likely reach your target audience, and TikTok already has a vast pool of users, with 1.39 billion active as of 2022. In fact, TikTok has become the number one app for consumer spending, according to AppAnnie. Consumers spent about $2.3 billion in 2022, a 77% increase from 2021!

Using trending music or sounds is a great way to increase the chances of your video appearing in people’s recommended tab. Apps like Instagram and TikTok show you top “Trending” sounds that people are searching for and using in their videos.  Following those sound trends can yield more engagement and views.

Speaking of trends, actually keeping up with current trends can help.  Jump onto TikTok or Instagram and you’re bound to see similar dance videos or fun challenges from different people. People want to be in the loop and part of the community. Therefore, people either participate in them or enjoy having them pop up on their page. So why not try out these trends?  It’s a great way for someone to see “inside” your business and see your personality.

Perhaps the simplest thing you can do right now is Reaction/Duets. If you are Duetting a video, it means you are adding more content to the original post. For example, suppose we see an intricate video edited with crazy cuts or effects. In that case, we could give an insight into how we would approach our editing or shoot something. The same goes for reacting. Film lovers react to trailers they are anticipating. Art lovers react to art, and so on. It solidifies you as an expert.    If you’re in the professional services industry, you could give insight or a deeper analysis on a current hot topic.

Whether it is a dance or a fun challenge, sometimes social media is about having fun with it. Showing your company’s “fun” side is what people need to see to be interested. It is an emotional reach rather than informational.  It’s also a great way to stand out in a competitive job market.  So, make sure to add your twist to make it unique, and who knows, maybe one of your videos will go viral!
