Thursday Tips: Shooting Vertical vs. Horizontal Video

In this week’s Thursday Tips, we take a look at when you should shoot horizontally vs. vertically, and how to present those videos on social media.

Transcript:

Should you shoot your next video horizontally or vertically? There’s a couple of key things you need to know before you shoot that video. First, who is your audience and what is the platform? If you’re shooting for TikTok, shoot that video vertically. If you’re shooting for stories, for Facebook or Instagram, vertical is the way to go. If you’re shooting a video for your company website or a presentation, shoot it horizontally. And if you’re shooting even for YouTube or LinkedIn, horizontal is the way to go.

Now, you can edit a horizontal video into a vertical video but there’s a couple of things to keep in mind. For instance right now we’re shooting horizontally and you can see the beautiful Memorial Park behind me, the tunnels. And when we edit vertically, all that’s taken out and you really lose that beautiful landscape. So here’s vertical and here’s horizontal. So knowing how you’re going to use your video, what content you want to show, and who your audience is, is important to know.
